Simon Says Give® Partners with Mall of America® and MoneyGram® Foundation for GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title Attempt During Backpack Packing Event
EAGAN, Minn., June 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Simon Says Give, a Minnesota-based, youth-led nonprofit, announced today their partnership with Mall of America and the MoneyGram Foundation to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title of Most backpacks stuffed with school supplies in 8 hours. Over 8,000 backpacks with school supplies will be packed at the Mall of America Rotunda on August 8, 2018. The backpacks will be sent to underprivileged children throughout Minnesota to prepare them for the upcoming school year.
This year marks our 6th annual High Five for Supplies drive and over that time, our program has prepared 30,000 children to be school-ready. This year is special in our attempt to break a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title. The current minimum for packing backpacks in one day is 8,000; we believe we can pack 8,000 backpacks in about six hours. These backpacks will then be distributed to children living in poverty in the Minnesota area.
This is the second year Mall of America has teamed up with Simon Says Give. Mall of America has been world class to work with as we receive thousands of items and dollars that all go towards the creation, purchase, and supply of backpacks for this event. Additionally, Mall of America sponsored the application to set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title and provided the event space.
Simon Says Give also joined efforts with the MoneyGram Foundation who is the title sponsor for this year’s High Five for Supplies drive. Minnesota-based employees of MoneyGram International will also support the initiative by donating new school supplies and volunteering.
The Simon Says Give Team along with Mall of America and the MoneyGram Foundation are expecting to have over 1,000 volunteers coming to the event and over 10,000 children will be impacted by this event. With that said, we still encourage you and as many friends and family members you can get to come and volunteer with us that day and make a huge impact on the lives of many children in need.
